who we are now, and then... (2021-22)

“When I participated in the dance sessions on zoom, everyone was in their homes. What we were seeing hearing was so different within our homes spaces, yet as a collective the dancers had the ability to transform these personal senses into movements, and introduce new inspirations to the group.”

Who we are now, and then… is a special exhibition curated by Danielle Jones, featuring newly commissioned artwork from three visual artists; David Armes, Emma Brown, Edwina Kung, and photographer; Sara Hibbert.

The title of the exhibition has evolved from our dance process: Who we are now – reflects the personal and honest offerings that our dancers bring us each week; and then… referring to the genuine curiosity of our dancers and their request to continue evolving, pushing us to continually develop our practice.

“Nurturing, wrapping up warm with a blanket
All of the senses allow the memories to come back
Take your power
Rooted as the flowers and plants outside
A gardener growing sunflowers
Embodied the carving
Was the memory in there or was I building it?
Tenderness
Intense to watch on the little screens
Expansion of empathy
Opening the water, space for your body
A fern unfurling”
