yes... and then..?

The unsaid but silently repeated question asked through our dancers sense of curiosity throughout the CID Project workshops, online classes, and filming process.

Every time we turn up in the home of one of our dancers (we are visiting 16 dancers in total to capture footage for our documentary film), most importantly we bring cake! But secondly, we bring a small droplet to begin the process

and then…

Each dancer we have visited has taken on every suggestion, concept, idea; invested all they have in trying it on, exploring it, and then asking us gently – what next…

No movement exploration or task has been too much in this process of meeting our dancers where they are at, and bringing all we can as artists to a co-created exchange in their home spaces. The environment surrounding us has been theirs, the language of dance has been ours, but the process has been shared by the bodies in the space equally.

This is exactly what we had hoped for the CID Project. Put simply, we meet our dancers where they are, as we are, and what evolves is an honest, intuitive, compassionate, collective experience. The use of improvised human voice alongside the rawness of improvised human movement, creates the kind of special, intangible connection that we hope we can share with you through the upcoming work at our newly curated exhibition:

Who we are now, and then…

The title of the exhibition reflects the process of the project so far and the theme of identity running through our research, practice, and thinking:

Who we are now – to reflect the personal and honest offerings that our dancers bring us each week, giving us insights into who they are now;

and then… referring to the genuine curiosity that our dancers have demonstrated and how they have challenged us to continually evolve our practice and ourselves.

We are delighted to share this work with you, and to bring visibility to the thoughtful, reflective, joyful, and honest artistry of our dancers…
